When I was in the UK I grabbed a T-Mobile SIM. #5 ($10) for 30 days unimeitld Internet. #20 ($40) for six months unimeitld Internet.From memory it had a fair use policy, but it allowed me to just not worry if I needed Internet, I could use it. I could tether (until my laptop died ) and work.When I had 3GB on Vodafone it was almost the same (and I had the reassurance that even downloading constantly their network was so slow I\'d barely hit 1GB in a month). But the 500MB Telecom have now (on the $40 plan) requires caution.The not worrying thing is what I want. I think Lance is exceptional wanting 10+GB per month, but he shouldn\'t be. We should all be able to just use our phones (and tablets, laptops, whatever) without needing to worry about $2000 bills.

Oh yes, I\'d agree that the fact that there were people self-funding there is deineitfly more a positive than a negative: I hope my observation didn\'t come across as too critical. I thought it was worth sharing as it sparked a few interesting conversations (and, I\'m glad to see, is continuing to do so).I\'d agree that local events are at an advantage for attendance: in terms of value for money, time and stress. I also think the specialisation idea is a good one one it\'s always much easier to argue for attending an event that\'s in your core role though I think such events would be best run in parallel with the more general mashes, as I enjoy the mingling as much as the mashing.A side note: I should also, to be fair to my employer, indicate that they have funded me to attend a Mashed Library event in the past, and did send a colleague to this Mashed Library, so it\'s not that the sessions aren\'t valued. However, I think I\'d find it hard to attend one about once a year (my ideal frequency) unless I was working on a specific relevant project.
